Lindsay Funke: That's funny, 'cause I was gonna say "You might wanna lean away from that fire since you're soaked in alcohol."
Arrested Development
but there's anthropomorphism everywhere...it's cute, it sells, and jeff koons' version will be more SR...
The Human Torch: Don't need no more.
Fantastic Four
but do you like it? one has to fight it, like those pet mills....
Twiki: Oops, that smarts. Nice work, champ, they never laid a glove on you.
Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
not fair to compare it with pet mills...besides, what about Aesops fables and the Disney's characters and the Sesame Street friends....some of these are highly pedagogic (altho I know you hate anything Disney's ) and it would be a protracted debate again...
Paul: One more smart remark like that, young lady, and there will be serious consequences.
8 Simple Rules... for Dating My Teenage Daughter
but this are tales and stories, not reality...children should realise it (like with ego-shooters and thrillers), but now it's too late for that debate,...
Mittens: <dryly> Oh, the super-bark. Scary, scary. Yeah, that's really, really super.
Bolt
....but what is anthropomorphism but stuff of tales and art....children usually grow out of them...but you're right- it's become a cult or worse, highly commercialised these days...and we can always continue with this debate...
Bursar: OK girls, let's play clean. No biting, no scratching... kicking, no gouging, no kickboxing, no punching, no slapping, no spitting... uh... no gouging! And no no-regulation equipment. James, this is with you!
St. Trinian's
seems a movie about your youth?
but to tell in parables and using animals with one special characteristic (e.g. fox as clever and back-stabbing) to express something bad or forbidden (to avoid censorship) and finally ending in a moral lesson is different from using animals as child-surrogate and thus torturing the animal (though a kid would also suffer from such an over-caring treatment)...
Zoe Carter: Hey, G.I Josephina, what's with all the firepower? Hot date?
Eureka
oh, yeah...
my point exactly.....so you can't compare anthropomorphism with the puppy mills....and are you talking about the pet rights over owner rights here then? I think that's a very grey area...that animal pampering (treating the pet as own child) would be considered as animal abuse?
Lieutenant Malcolm Reed: This battle won't be won with firepower. Deception and surprise can be just as potent as brute force.
Enterprise
but these puppy mills seem to produce cheap dogs especially for those people that like pampering their dogs in that exaggerated way...anyway, I'd consider that pampering too as torture for pets, they suffer from all that unsuitable food and treatment
Cal Lightman: Have you ever had any specialized deception training?
Lie to Me
but if the people have the money to pamper their pets (those brandname costumes and gourmet food and trips to pet spas are pretty expensive ) then they shld be able to shell out good money to buy from registered dealers/suppliers/pet shops...
The Doctor: You know, your species has the most amazing capacity for self-deception, matched only by its ingenuity in trying to destroy itself.
Doctor Who
but those who have money often treat their pets more "normal" and those "well breed" pets are often really expensive, and if a fashion starts for a special dog breed, such as Chihuahuas now, or Dalmatian dogs before (thanks to Disney) many dogs are needed and the reliable breeders have not enough and prices raise a lot....here the Puppy mills come then in...
