I saw last night- Festen (The Celebration), 1998 Danish film...pretty good...no frills- very basic aesthetics, shot with a handheld camera, the kind of film that you know something's gonna happen and then it did and you're not disappointed....very good character development and excellent acting.....

a kind of anti-Holywood Dada movement, I guess, but it has been criticised as a publicity gimmick....anyways, it's dead now but the indie films are a good middleground in the end.

but for dada much too earnest and sometimes even d&g ...the heirs of Ingmar Bergman perhaps
I watched now Battle Royale...not bad and quite interesting...7.7/10

...yup, I know...usually depressing topics...harrowing, hopeless, lbeak...european....
Festen was pretty interesting, though it was ages ago that I saw it, definately more interesting than some movies of that ilk...
I sat through one by some russian director filmed in Sweden- there was no dialogue for the first 20 mins and not much after..and not much happened except a mental breakdown over a broken plate- that was after 2hours, I still haven't quite forgiven my friend for persuading me to watch it...
I'm curious to see Zebraman- after all what kind of superpowers would Zebraman have? stripes to confuse his enemies?

20 min pure visuals- of swedish berries? I can understand why you'd never forgive your friend....I've to check out this Zebraman movie.....I watched again Children of Men (in one sitting this time)...quite different from the PD James' book...not bad though...

I love Children of Men! is a great movie! (Great Alfonso Cuarón)
Yeah, about the russian/danish movies...in general too bleak for me (20 minutes without dialogue...are you kidding me?)...and then russian people are obsessed with their childhood, the smell of bread in the morning, the sound of the wind in the snow, one deer that they saw how it died...that kind of things... . Seriously, all those North-European/Russian movies are too whites and to quites for me (Even When I love "Let the right one in"!), thats the reason I dont watch enough of them.
Then, I will check that Danish Dogma movie you were talking about...if you want to check a good indie film from last year check "HumpDay": a lot of improvisation, really good acting, great movie.
Ahh, and this weekend it is the season finale of LOST. Any thoughts on that??
Children of men is great, though pretty depressing for most of it, I've always wanted to read the book (or short story?)
I don't mind some Scandanavian films- in the right mood I love Bergman films- Seventh seal, wild strawberries...
I stopped watching lost after season 2/3 so I have no idea whats going on now... is the last ever lost? Or just the end of the current season?

The last ever episode!
