Casandra, "Moulin Rouge" is ok, I would not say is a good one, but I kind of enjoy it :D ...I still have to watch "Chicago" ( last week I saw "nine" and I did not enjoy it too much)

About the spanish films you are right toejam, Amenabar is a good director ("The others" was really good)

tried to watch moulin rouge and couldn't make it past the first 10 min. maybe i could watch it if i mute the tv :D same happened with the sound of music, and actually i have never met any Austrian who has seen it....

there are some other good spanish films, i like "tesis" and "abre los ojos" just to mention two that i remember right now.

El orfanato I found a bit disappointing, actually nothing really is happening except the ill and whiny imagination of that woman...the best spanish film since along time is of course Pan's labyrinth...and many of the Almodovar movies I like, though the recent ones are more and more commercial...Tesis was not bad, almost forgot it already....Buñuel of course though I saw not many unfortunately.

And musical films? I only remember the Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, that one I liked, thought e original is better imo.

I forgot the hippie films The Rocky Horror Picture Show, jesus christ superstar, westside story...Little shop of Horrors. all more or less not bad... :D

-hobglobin-

hurray for the hippies.....but westside is not a hippie film?
Anyways, the Sound of Music is the alltime best musical (doesn't amtter what the Austrians say :D) and then there's The Fiddler, Oliver, Lady Sings the blues, Cabaret, The King and I, All That Jazz, The Cotton Club, South Pacific..La Vie En Rose- a more recent one....:P

-casandra-

But the Cotton Club is a movie about a Jazz musician...
...and Westside Story you're right...Rocky Horror is also not really Hippie,...not sure what is is...a Scifi, horror, love story etc parody...

-hobglobin-

yup but there's a lot of night club jazz blues music there..oh and there's - New York, New York....liked that one too.....

-casandra-

i guess mostly Richard Gere is the musical part in that film... :D . Don't like that dude very much...."Bird" and "Sweet and Lowdown" are not bad (and IMO better) jazz and blues films... :P

-hobglobin-

oh yeah, he can sing and dance too :P....but I don't like him also.....and I had to google your films- ppffttt.....I'll try to look for them and let me be the judge....:D...they already look failing....

Sorry, but good arthouse films are not for people who like shallow romantic comedies and musical films :P

:P

-hobglobin-

my gosh, thus spake the art ignoramus...:D...you didn't like Annie or the Little Whorehouse in Texas? And my favourite High School Musical I and II and Hannah Montana? Boo- you.....:P
