rules I learned from all of my experiences for years:
1. Senpai (seniors) or supervisors are always right
2. If they are wrong, see rule number 1 above
p.s. i love my supervisor, though, really

This should be in the other thread, nikou : Top lies told by grad students
Am just back from lunch. Under 300yen lunch and OpenOffice Coffee and toffee
The rule is universal, nikou. I was taught that when I was in school and ever since then I am sincere to it
The other teaching was : if your boss kicks U on your ass, turn around and lick his shoes : Gross!

wakarimashita (understood). I live in Japan but not all people are equal - some are good at learning new languages and others are very good - I am in the third category : 'disable'. Beside, when it comes to learning something I am a namakimono (sloth). I don't know even the basic phrases.
Demo, your nihon-go is really good. (another reason to consider U being 'one of them')

My nihonggo sucks, go ask hamada-san, I'm sure s/he'd swear I'm not "one of them". Seriously though, I guess you also know that one of the main obstacles for mastering another language is one's fear of making mistakes so be shameless BB-san ....practice or more precisely, slaughter the language as much as you can.....if the native speakers can't understand you, at least they will be entertained (and that's your good deed for the day-cheering people up)....don't be a shy sloth ......oops, gossip time is over....minna-san, oyasuminasai (goodnight guys)...

Well, well, well . . making mistakes speaking to them - I would be someday thrown out of this country for all the slaughtering I have done of this language. Many times when I speak something, I get to see that shocked look and 'who taught you that' alarms my ears
