This is too easy to explain it or help someone with such a problem.....

They call it an addiction because (if you mastrubate too much and if you cant handle it) you just cant stop it... Its with any other addiction (like playing pc games or...) your job, life will suffer and you cant just say: "oh , just focus on work, get more work"... It doesnt work like this. You cant solve the problem (doing less and less for you job, life etc) by telling someone he has to do more of what he or she doenst....
People with strong addictions need propper and professional help.
(not saying this is the case, but just replying to what you said about how to solve the problem).

Haha Pito, I do agree with you is always easier to be said than done.

I would like to share my experience. Previously I was very much addicted in playing DOTA (Defense of The Ancient), at least 6 hours daily, with occasionally playing poker online, till the extend I even forget to take food, abandoned my social life, neglected my health and even not cutting my hair for 4 months, doesn't care if my body stinks, and of course I seldom do my laundry and wear the same clothes for entire week...
Till I join grad school and begin my research project; life changes. I have to do lots of reading, searching papers, troubleshooting experiments and frequent Bioforum :D . Sometimes I even stay in lab for more than 18 hours and end up in failed experiment, for my past 2 years and still counting.

Although I do occasionally play dota to release my tension, but I would say I had minimized and my addiction to just once a week and not more than 2 hours per time. Perhaps, by focusing on more on your work productivity, I think , based on my experience, can be used to reduce addictions.

But then, I do agree with you Pito, a professional help should be sought as is the best solution (with $$ of course). Else, try my "free advice" with no guarantee. :D :P

But those are only Adrian's suggestions....I guess if you have to clone and express 20 genes and write 5 papers in a month, then learn bioinformatic crap....when will you have time nor the energy to do it...unless you're Ubermensch :P..and I think by now, AllenChiu has already realised (after so many times you've stressed it) that he's not overdoing it...

Hmn... I had cloned more than 10 genes, now expressing 10 of it, writing 2 papers currently and my boss is still chasing me, and learning molecular docking and biomolecular modelling now...
Really, I wish to be Ubermensch... :P

..."free advice"? I'd be suspicious of anything given for free...

Haha Casey, you better be suspicious if anything was given to you free. ;)
Perhaps with the exception of Bullion coins?

Haha Pito, I do agree with you. Is always easy to be said than done. The reason I suggest this is because I got similar experience.

You are right off course, sometimes it will help, but if you really have a mental problem, its easier said then done.

But anyway: I dont see the problem in this case.

Readint his other posts , I think he has a more mental problem that goes deeper then just this problem.
He has low self esteem and has to work on that.
