Say, would someone do a Sim Laboratory? When you are the lab head and have to manage PhDs and others, adjusting their stamina, morale, creativity etc. For example: buy a radio - +1 morale, -1 creativity
Ooo.. this sounds interesting.
The objective of the game is to make big discoveries, publish papers and win grants. there is also a maximum time in the game. 50 years. And after you, the lab head retires, you get to look back and see all your contributions, (Number of nature papers, discoveries, and PhD students trained.). and have an overall score of "Impact on the science community."
Accidents that could happen
UV burns
Unbalanced centrifuge
Chemical spills
Fire
CO2 / N2 asphyxiation
To combat, you need to give better training, implement safety protocols, and buy safety equipment
but this cost money, and time
And you manage different types of PhD students, each with unique combination of motivation levels, intelligence and health. Depending on your students, you have to boost those by giving out free food, disciplining them, giving courses and group meetings. Implementing a lab kindergarten or hiring an experienced all-purpose technician greatly increase efficiency. Demanding extra hours gives benefits for a short time, but burns out the students. Do not use unless you have a vast supply of them. A trained, well producing student can be kept over his supposed graduate time, but not too long, otherwise his motivation drops.
Hmmmmmmmm. Does any geek here would make it?
Sounds like genetic algorithms to me.
Adding on
When you do give free food, the work efficiency dips but moral improves. Coffee breaks improve creativity. And if you do overwork you people, the probability of lab accidents increases. And every 2 months the safety officer comes by to inspect your lab. Then there is this thing called lab harmony. It keeps track of how much each member of the lab likes all other members of the lab. If two PhD students like each other, they work well together and you see increase productivity. If they real real like each other, it become love and the two PhD students marry. Children may appear, which requires you the lab head to perhaps consider a lab kindergarten to avoid maintain maximum productivity.
If the PhD students dislike each other, productivity fall. You wil have to talk to the students to sort out their differences.
If they really dislike each other, it becomes hate and triggers personal rivalry, which result in one of both students leaving the lab. And the project incomplete.
If the PhD student likes, they follow your decisions efficiently. if they dislikes you, they start acting up. No longer following your order, take really long coffee breaks and will sometimes leave.
As your reputation and grants increase, you get to enlarge your lab. You first start in a shared lab but ultimately you can get your own building.
And there is a random rare disaster event, such as fire in the building, flood, hurricane, earthquake, which will damage your lab to some degree (ranging from minor to severe). So depending on how well you have kept your data, you will have to rebuild.

And you get all these by taking this IQ test? ..really a lot of creative associations here or have you been drinking lots of coffee in the lab ..would scientists score high then in the creativity tests such as the Torrance or the Guilford ones?

And a wild card is needed. As example: The evil mad scientist (what else? ) who transforms the rest of the staff to zombies, together with unlimited funds and brilliant but evil ideas....Of course it's effect is only temporary and has disadvantages too (e.g. early death, bad CV, long imprisonment).

so I ask again, you get these by taking that IQ test? sorry..I'm too slow today....

I'd say, if anything then excessive computer game playing such as SimCity, SimAnt, The Sims and all the others...

OK finally I got it.......The Simps...The Simpsons.....that bad eh?...
You missed the bureaucracy villains. And paperwork disasters, for example animal house control. Getting an EU grant: more money, but helluva paperwork, and a good secretary needed to manage it.
Dunno my IQ, but one psychologist tested me with Torrance for her MS diploma, well I volunteered, she lured students with free chocolate. Apparently it was near max - the result, not the chocolate Useful for poems, not always useful at the lab, and has sinister appliances...
Anyway, I am a Civ and Sim freak, but the new versions - The Sims - are dumbed down. Well in Sim Societes you don't even NEED to link electricity to the buildings! What's the fun if there's no difficulty?
104 dId,t qualify for membership.
