It is more feature rich than the iphone - for a start it has copy and paste as well as running multiple apps running at once. Oh and the dev kit is going to give developers full hooks into the system.

perlmunk, I just googled this Palm WebOs..it's not even out yet and accdg to the ad, if it gets priced at 150 usd, then it's gonna kill iPhone but more than likely, it'd fetch between 200 to 300 dollars. That's quite expensive for me but I also saw that Ericksson's X-peria costs about 800 bucks....how can you justify a a gadget costing this much and why is this a lot more expensive than the rest of the pack? 800? To "stay connected" 24 hrs a day? PPfftt...what is wrong with the world these days? oh, but maybe I'm just sour-graping bec I only have a DumbPhone :D and it's turned off most of the time or low batteries...but really? These phones are that expensive?

What?

Aren't you in Canada? You lot won't see it for another 2 years (after Europe) :D
They get heavily subsidised over here so most phones are free or max £30 ($30! us) - the exception that proves the rule is the iPhone. I want mobile internet so I can call people on all the bullshit they make up when I talk to them. Phones and PDAs are the same thing now - mini netbooks?!

Hi.
I was just interested what kind of operating system people are using.
I just heard that MacOS is very popular in the US, und in germany biologists are to lazy to get rid of windows,...

cu

M$ winXP at lab, but BSD in my own laptop .... I'm the only one voted "Other"?! ;)

As all in our lab are using Mac I've also been kind of converted to Mac. Still running Windows at home though. But I'm not exactly missing a lot on Mac - except maybe Solitare etc. :D

-aquilea_bk-

exactly as aquilea_bk, except that Solitaire thing.
Thought of switching to Ubuntu but got really nasty help on the forum.
Completely switching to mac is not a deal due to the costs involved. Its too much of money for a machine that will not last for more than 3 years (due to technology or whatever other reason) I don't do any high end computation that I need such a powerful machine. Similar spec windows machines cost pretty less.

Only hassle is maintenance of windows machine, but I am ready to accept that hassle for costs and as a grad student, you don't have much money, do you? (Apple is not that cheap in Europe for students, for academic institutions, no VAT but not for students)

At the end, do you manage to get your job done? yes, move on.. :D
