hi guys,
maybe i put things in a wrong order. hobs is right. and it makes sense that the pandemics are named after the place where they are most devastating.

the WHO has called for phase 5

http://www.who.int/csr/don/2009_04_29/en/index.html

some cases reported even in Germany (3), Canada (13) and Austria (1) :(

i don't know if the virus has been isolated from a pig or the samples that are under research are taken only from diseased people. i haven't found scientific-based information about it yet.

It's official...the WHO gives it a more kindergartenname ;) ...to appease everyone.....and we've got 27 confirmed cases as of this hour.....

A for "arctic"? ;)

hahaha yourself, tj....I can do accents very well... ;) and A for Acapulco.......like it said on the news, the WHO already renamed it (tho I prefer Pigenza)..so that shld appease everyone....except for the poor pigs, so maligned and stigmatised and even condemned to early deaths (literally)...btw, your pics are very funny....

and as the Bioforum Mom, it's my duty to remind everybody to wash hands thoroughly, with soap and lukewarm water preferably with scrubbing, the surgeon-style or until the epidermis falls off.....and most importantly, no kissing of pigs esp mouth to snout.... ;) ... let's all take care guys.....and meanwhile, you can also check out last.fm..The Bioforum group fun and swine-flu-free... :(

we can't have all them pigs enjoy all that notoriety for nothing......now we can all wait for the revenge of the porkies...:P...seriously, what's the probability that it will jump back to humans...mutated into a more virulent form?

That is the question cassandra.

With the WHO and CDC senationalizing the oprev swine flu, SARS, mad cow, bird flu - alot of folks, inclduing alot of scientists, have trouble seeing tis one as the real wolf. And we can't forget to follow the money. FDA's funding will certainly increase and nothing substantial has been promised the CDC so far. Nothing like a good "pandemic" to get funding going.

:P oh yeah, we can all be paranoid and cynical....what with all the funding/grant money that will be involved..but shouldn't we be on the side of caution here? The virus can go either way- become mild or more virulent....and perhaps this is the one after all the mere hype of the others...

Obviously, I can't say anything about the probablility of it happening, but let us not forget that the 1917-18 swine flu started as a mild spring flu, disappeared over the summer, and returned in the winter in a more virulent form and killed millions.
