Presidential Election - Let the polls begin! (Oct/12/2004 )
If you are from the US, who are you voting for this election and why?
I'm voting for George W. Bush, primarily because he supports the pro-life movement.
Thanks for responses

Unless you happen to be from Iraq his policy seems to be different there.
I must say, I disagree with your statement, it is incorrect.
I have very close family friends from Iraq, two of which happen to be young women. They are very thankful of what took place, now they can begin to live like normal people again.
Many reports for Iraq also indicate that people are thriving and more content now, than when Saddam was ruling.

are you insane??
you actually believe that what's they show on the news is the truth??
people who vote for bush.... i think my head wil explode just trying to comprehend that.
anarchy for all!
for someone who doesn't live in the us, but has some friends there....well, you people baffle me completely.

I'm sorry I didn't quite understand you.
I live in the United States and I have close family friends in Iraq.
If you think the people are suffering there so much, what crudentials do you have?
I'm voting for Bush because he did do good for the country

I forgot to mention one thing...
No I don't believe everything I hear on the news (I believe that a lot of it is liberally bias; too much Bush bashing). I have near family in Iraq right now, that's my most reliable source.
Oh and if I didn't mention already, I had many family members that served in Iraq.

ok...this isn't really a site to be talking about politics. but for my two cents...
i don't like politics. i don't like politicians. i don't like war. i don't like invasions. i don't like soldiers being blown up, shot, ambushed etc etc etc. i don't like civilians being blow up, shot, ambushed etc etc etc. i don't like that people are being kidnapped, killed, put on the internet.
i don't like a lot of things.
i don't think that living in an area where the above things happen is a "thriving and more content" place.
i have opinions on a lot of things. i have opinions in areas i have absolutly no qualifications in. i have opinions in what kind of shoes my mother wears when i take her out to dinner, which she is not very happy about. i have opinions on how my big sis raises her kids, even though i have none of my own. i had opinions on my boyfriend's friends, hair, hygene etc etc etc... now he is an ex-boyfriend. i have opinions in americans politics. i have opinions in genetic enhancement....use of drugs in athletics (I CAN BOAST I AM THE WORLD SLOWEST RUNNER....even though i try really hard to be the opposite of that statement)...people who vote in australian idol....britney's lovelife.....soo many opinions, so little time...
my opinions on american politics are based on what makes me tick, nothing else. i did not take in course in american political science... i didn't take a course in any politics whatsoever. i don't like politics, though my friend ran for, and was elected as the queer officer at my university two years ago (YAY SHE WON!). i only know about it because it was a friend....since then, i have had no involvement in politics, whatsoever.
*I* didn't like bush back in 1998, because i thought his eyes were beady. i don't like beadly little eyes. i also didn't like the "W" in his name...it annoyed the crap out of me. doubleyah...ewwww
credentials to have opinions... since when? everyone votes, credentials or not. really stupid people vote....really smart people vote....really stupid people don't vote....really smart people don't vote. i have not been to iraq, and am not planning on going there anytime soon. my ex-boyfriend (who had lousey friends, IMO)... was a marine who's been there for a year. he doesn't like it there. i don't like him being there.
i don't really understand american politics. how the houses work, whose in charge of what, how decisions are made. i don't know whose liberal and democratic, and republican, and the difference between them. i know an election is coming up... and there's bush and kerry, and someother guy who's got no chance whatsoever of winning. i am almost blissfully ignorant...too many other things to worry about (ie what's for dinner tonight, what concentration of antibiotic should i use....will my cells be alive by luchtime...lunchtime....who stole the miniprep kit....)
i don't like terrorism, i don't like that there is now a "war" on it. i don't like that *every* country is now in on it. i think they're just trying to milk out more of our tax dollars for their own pockets. i think it's a scam, and we've fallen for it. but i'm completely ignorant on most of the facts, and would be told to shut up in a heart beat, if this were a face to face meeting....given that, i will.
but, there are somethings that don't make sense, which i have a genuine right to say...
bush is pro life...but he's pro death penalty... and pro war. i don't like it, IMO.
i don't get the whole "freedom fries".... actually i don't get french fries either...they're chips.
i don't understand why people like bush.... i accept that they're there, and in a majority, but i still don't get it.
i don't get people who think that flying a flag infront of their house means they're patriotic. i think it means they like flags. AND, a guy got in trouble for flying the australian flag infront of his house when he was in america....he was australian for petes sake....we've got a pretty flag with stars on it. WTF?
i don't get americans who are really religious. i especially don't get why they want to go into politics. i don't get why anyone wants to go into politics. i still don't get my old e-mail buddy who told me that everyone has the right to a gun...and that if jesus were alive today, he'd have a gun...another WTF?...he sent me flowers though, so i liked him lots.
i don't like people who don't accept that other people may have a different opinion, or take on the world.
i do like flowers, and dark chocolate, and that hot doc on er....hmmm, hot doc....and lots of other stuff too. i like this forum, you all helped me figure out ligations. i luvs yus all. though i'd prefer it if politics were kept out of it.
my two cents.
Ok.....
That was an interesting post....
What don't you not "understand" about people that are religious anyhow?
Btw, I think this is a healthy subject for this forum, it's good to talk about other things than biology with follow biologists. After all, this is the chit-chat (off topic) forum.
ok, i had to write up a seminar, and really didn't want too, so was procrastinating with everything else, my desk is very clean .... oh internet, forum, excuse to go on the internet for soooooo long. pretty much why that post was so long.
really, dave, you peeved me when you said, "I must say, I disagree with your statement, it is incorrect." i started thinking, who the hell are you to say that statement is incorrect....hay it wasn't even from my post... yeah, anyway if festered, and yeah.... either write a post or my seminar.... decisons decisions....
i never said i don't get religious people, i said i don't get americans who are really religious....there's a difference. BIG DIFFERENCE!!!! in general, though, i don't like being preached to. i don't like being told that something is wrong, just because it different. i don't like being told that i'm going to burn in hell. just don't....ARGHHHH
well, anyway, with a whole two hours of sleep under my belt for the past four days, i'm pretty much ready to call it a day. my seminar is written (YAY!) it's got animations.
pick nose, pick butt, pick kerry....he he
vetticus
"i don't get religious people, i said i don't get americans who are really religious....there's a difference. BIG DIFFERENCE!!!!"
What the heck is the difference?!
What is "really" religious mean to you anyhow?
