Cell drawing tools? - (Jul/03/2011 )

Very often when I do my power point slides during lab presentation, I need to explain my work in pictures and diagrams. Eg, how cells interact with proteins, ligands etc etc. I find it hard to draw it by myself. And often "steal" from other online publication. However, I can't do that all the time as those pictures belongs to other people! I tried to draw on power point, however, they look ugly!!!

May I know if anybody knows any free, easy-to-use drawing software to draw those cells pictures?
Thanks a lot.

Check this website: http://www.servier.com/servier-medical-art

I know its not 100% what you ask, but its a start.

And to be honest: if you want to draw the figures yourself you will lose a lot(!) of time!

Its not easy and remember that most of the nice(r) pictures are drawn by artists.. they are not made by the researchers.
Especiallig the figures in books or big papers...

The more standard ones are sometimes made by scientist , but they are as I said, very basic or standard.

There are some drawing programs out there.. but you'll need to invest time in it and I am not sure you are prepared to do that.

Thanks a lot, Pito!!!
I guess I would prefer what you recommended! Anyway, I'm not good in art or computer graphic. The slides bank is a brilliant idea!

Hey

There is a really good program you can have access to and it allows you to draw everything you want. It's an adobe software - Ilustrator.
It's is really good and allows you to both draw images in 2D or in 3D. Its very intuitive and there are very good tutorials.

The only drawback its the price of the program but if your employer is able to get you access than its really worth it. And it does not take you a lond time making the pictures because you can use someone elses pic, draw on top and make your own ajustments.

Hope it helped

I am also wondering how people draw figures in Nature etc. Are such software tools available?

Also there are quite some good figures that I like very much in this Science article. Anyone knows if I can use some software to draw figures like 1 and 3?

Thank you

Did you check "reference 35" ?

And read my post (and others) in this topic.

And to fully answer your question: yes , there are programs out there, but are they very easy to use for a novice: not really. + they are pricy.
