Theory question on protein phosphorylation - (Nov/16/2004 )

This is not an experimental question but a theoretical one:
I have asked this in another post but it seems to be misunderstood.
Q: Is it possible to have a protein phosphorylated at sites that do not affect its mobility as visualized by SDS-PAGE?
The reason for asking this is that it is the basis for a specific aim in a fictional grant proposal that I am presenting to my graduate comittee.
Thanks

I wouldn't think so, but the changes might be so minor that it can be hard to detect the differences... But no, phosphorylation should change both molecular weight (Western) and the pH (IEF)..
