Protein loading control? - (Aug/08/2007 )

What are the most usual protein loading controls for Western blots found in papers about bacteria ? I need something that can be purchased.

For example Rainbow Mw protein markers ( GE Healthcare)?

But that is a marker. I am looking for a loading control that can be loaded in every lane so that I can monitor how correct my loading is.

You will have to measure the amount of protien in your samples and load the same amounts and you will have to detect expression of a housekeeping gene using antibodies to show equal loading of each lanes.

in mammalian cells, one might use actin for control.

Yes, you need a housekeeping gene for a loading control. For example, I use either hsp90, actin, or GADPH as loading controls against mammalian cell proteins. Just remember to choose one of a size that is considerably far from the target protein.
