Bath Sonicator vs. Probe Sonicator? - (Jun/05/2007 )
I need a bath sonicator because it's not as harsh as a probe sonicator but we don't have one. Does anyone know if I can use the probe sonicator in water and then put tube in water. Not sure if this is as effective as a bath sonicator????
Thanks

What are tha tasks you want to solve with sonication?
For lysis bacterial and mammalian cells - use probe sonicator and bath sonicator for glass washing

I dont think you can mimic bath sonicator this way. It has something to do with focusing of the vibration energy from the bottom of the bath sonicator, which can not be readily duplicated with a probe placed next to it.

I need a bath sonicator for glass washing but we don't had one, so I was just wondering if I could mimic one from using a probe sonicator?

I think it is possible but it is time consuming procedure. You need full your glass beakers or other with detergent solution and sonicate. And then repeat with other one. And of course depends on size diameter of your probe and what kind of glass do you want to wash. OF cause it is not rationale approach for probe sonicators usage in such a way but if there is no other ways why not?
