Acrylamide/Agarose gels on nucleic acids... - Differential use...? (Dec/06/2006 )

hi there.

Does anyone knows pros and cons on using acrylamide or agarose gels for resolve nucleic acids?
Is there an equivalence relation between percentages of acrylamide/agarose?

Thanks a lot

Acrylamide gel is better for small fragments (under 0.5kb) and with high resolution, it is frequently used in DD-RT, AFLP which needs discriminate small and closely sized fragments, while acrylamide gel is little bit complexe to prepare compare with agrose gel
agrose gel is good for large fragment (>500bp) and very convenient to use
in fact, you could find these information on molecular cloning: a laboratory manual.
