specific protein in high quantities - what can I do? (Oct/19/2006 )

I need a protein in a relative high quantity since in my experiments I´ve to add it to the cell cultures. The recombinant purified protein is available for purchase, but it´s very expensive and not enough for my experiments. I can´t purify it my lab or in a neighbour one because we don´t do that kind of experiments.
Has someone experience about contacting with a brand (I suppose it could be the brand that now produces the protein or another one) and order them high quantities of a protein? I hope they will offer me a special price, won´t they?
What are your experiences?

we order some recombinant protien from a company bcoz its highly important for our cell culture even though my PI was the one to discover it. It expensive but worthwhile. Now even if we were to make this protein, is it cell culture grade, this is the big question.

At the same time, we also prepare protiens for our biochemical assays. and since its not for cell culture its fine.

u could try speaking to the company and try to negotiate a deal.
