List five methods of sterilization - (Oct/17/2006 )

Pages: Previous 1 2 3

hey all,
the method that you guys are calling as hot oven sterilization, is called as DRY HEAT STERILIZATION. it does not have any water in the glass bottles before the empty glass vials/bottles are baked. This type of sterilization is carried out for 180mins at around 240deg C. this helps removal of endotoxins which cant be removed with autoclaving.

Low-temperature oxidative sterilization for medical devices and surgical instruments is a safe alternative to ethylene oxide (EtO) sterilization

For tissue culture the bottles and tubes etc. are sterilized by spraying with 70% ethanol before being placed into the sterile tissue culture hood....

70% EtOH or 70% IPA does not have any significant effects on many types of fungal/mold spores so be careful. Sani-Cloth® wipes (quaternary ammonium compounds) are a very good alternative for disinfection of materials for cell culture and without the pleasent Sporicidin® Scent. huh.gif

Centrifugation

how do you figure?

do you think that any organisms will be removed from solution? some will always float back in (not very effective).

or

are you thinking about passing the solution through a sterile centrifugal filter? that is sterile filtration.

is there something that i'm missing?
