antibody- left in room temp for a few days - still working? (Sep/21/2006 )
hi,
some stupid people had removed the connection plug of the fridge that we use to store our antibodies. Those antibodies left approximately 5 days at room temp. do you think they may still be working?

I don't think so..
But if you want to be sure...Oblige this stupid person test some antibodies, and see if they still work!

thanks for very quick reply. i would definitely do that if i knew who did it . but it is some unknown! person.
i think that's me who is going to check the antibodies. i just want to have some hope to do it

It's just like in my lab. When something like that happens it's always "nobody". So we think our lab is maybe haunted by some bad ghosts.
In fact, I would be very astonished if our antibodies still worked.
Don't be pessimistic.
There are preservatives in antibiotics. They should not be degraded so easily.
Do a quick dot blot and tell us, but I 'm quite sure they will still worlk.
I forgot to tell you I'm often very pessimistic ;-)
Remember, antibodies are just proteins. Moreover, they are proteins whose natural habitat is at body temperature; much hotter than room temperature.
I would check them before you pitch them, they're probably fine...

once I said that to my PI, she answered : Do you know the half life of antibodies in your body? what's the turn-over?
...
however, if it's sterile, it will not degrade so easily !
i will check those antibodies and tell you the result.
thanks everybody for help.
my PI is on holiday now, tomorrow she will be back and get informed on this fridge thing. it won't be a nice day tomorrow i guess. (we also have PKA inhibitor&activator, in vitro transcription kit and RNA polymerase there)
I once received a sample Cell Signaling antibody at a conference that was being handed out at room temp. When asked about the storage conditions, the rep said that room temp is fine for several days.
The antibody worked very nicely when I returned to the lab about 5 days later.
