Diluting triton in water - (Sep/08/2006 )
I wanted to make a 5% triton solution so I diluted 10 ml pure triton into 190 ml water but I get a solid transparent precipitate...
How do I get rid of this precipitate?
u need to vortex it well. Triton takes a while to dissolve.
If you don't want to have a lot of foam, you can also rotate it ON
Thanks!
I was wondering if I had done anything wrong cause the triton did not seem to dislove much at first but now it is slowly dissolving while rotating.
we always stir with a magnetic stir bar.
I like to microwave briefly to help desolving it.
What's wrong with the classic technique of shaking really hard?
If you plan ahead you can shake all you want and leave the solution overnight for the bubbles to disappear.
it takes more effort. why shouldn't we use labor saving devices like stirrers, mixers, shakers, etc.? that's what we bought them for.
Go with genehunter. I would typically make up 50 ml by adding the required MilliQ volume, nuking it for 30 sec, then adding the Triton and inverting a few times. Hey presto, Triton stock in about 1 minute!

Old school.
