Silly question concening REs - (May/01/2006 )
Hi there,
I am very sorry I have to ask this silly question here. If a RE has the following recognition sequence:
5` GAATTC 3`
3` CTTAAG 5`
Would it also cut 5` CTTAAG 3`?
I`m pretty sure it wouldn`t but my superviser said it would, creating just a different overhang.
No, it wouldn't
I think it wouldn't too.
Normally, we will consider from 5' to 3' of DNA sequence.
It would not.
definitely it would not cut.
it's the basical property of an enzyme to recognize one sequence. For convenience, it's usually annoted from 5' to 3'... so reverse the sequence change the site so enzyme doesn't cut anymore.
Right, I thought so, because otherwise you would find hundreds of new restriction sites in a vector f.ex.. So, my superviser either enjoys telling lies or she is indeed quite
