purification of DNA extracted from agarose gel - does ethidium bromide remains / interefrence with ligation (Feb/20/2006 )

I have extracted DNA from an agarose gel using Whatmann paper. Is it necessary to purify the DNA for use in a subsequent ligation reaction and transformation? Does the presence of the ethidium bromide affect the ligation reaction? Thanks for the attention to this inquiry.

hello, i dont know about this method of purification, i usually do phenol/Chloroform....anyway ethidium bromide is the only risk to destroy your DNA and not effect ligation or transformation....i dont think phenol/chloroform removes it as well....please someone correct me of im wrong...
