Liquid nitrogen protein extraction ?. - (Jan/01/2021 )

Hello,

After grinding my sample into powder using liquid nitrogen, is it okay if I transport the powder on ice (journey cost about 30 minutes) before I could place them into -20C/-80C? I am worried that during the transportation period the powder will thaw and cause protein degradation.

thanks

Should be okay, better if dry ice

This is how you could do it by blending protein samples with liquid nitrogen until they freeze and become brittle. The samples can then be ground with a mortar and pestle. Grinding involves low risk to the integrity of the proteins, but liquid nitrogen can be dangerous. Grinding in liquid nitrogen is a great technique for difficult samples, such as plant and fungi samples.
