silver stain destaining - (Oct/02/2014 )

Hi everyone,

I've stained my protein bands with Silver Kit (pierce) which includes also a destain kit, however the wash solution which contains NH4HCO3 is not provided. I've searched every lab and couldn't find it. Could you suggest me another salt to wash the bands?

Not sure what your downstream application is, but I know for certain that hydrogen peroxide will remove silver stained bands (oxidizes Ag). I often will do this if I want to Coomassie stain my gel after silver staining.
