About post doc - (Jul/05/2009 )

Dear Colleagues
I have selected some groups for my post doc, but I am very reluctant to contact with them. I can write an email but I donot know what should be the format of the email, can some one give me advice, what should I write, do I need to wrtite a cover letter.
How long should be my CV. Does one page CV is enough.
I shall be very thankful to you if you can advice me some thing about it.
with best regards

This is very subjective area.

Your CV should cover all your academic qualifications, achievement, publications, lectures etc with timeline. You should also provide referee names and contact details. Page numbers do not matter. Try to make it compact but succinct and readable.

Cover letter is basically introducing yourself, why you are interested in doing postdoc in that lab and what are your goals, in as brief as possible.

For more, check out these lectures and these.

This is what I would advise:

One cover letter., which will be yr email. Very briefly mention what have you done.

One CV should have details about yr accomplishments, techniques you know, papers, conferences, objective, educational qualifications.

One research summary, about 1 page which describes yr work.

All the Best,
TC
