I have a careless boss - (Apr/10/2014 )
Good luck for those. Hopefully, their responses will be positive and you go home a happy boy :)
Sorry to hear that. It is extremely unfortunate that you are in this position. How can this individual maintain her funding if she is an overall terrible mentor? It seems that the administration would look poorly on her overall negligence.
So today I discovered that my wife and child will not be under any kind of medical insurance in my new contract. The officer told me that whatever the big boss said is pure lies because even the salary will be the same. Im sending my wife home next week but I will continue for a while until I feel the students can carry out the experiments by themselves and I can secure one or two publications.
The good news is that I was offered an assistant professorship job in my country today, but the salary is even lower than now. The employer said there are ways to earn more. I hope this one's telling the truth.
just curious, whats your home country than?
I don't know about the wages in your country, but is it possible that perhaps the salary itself is low, but that you have all kinds of free extras like (medical insurance) ...? Or not even that?

So I resigned and it feels great.
I banned a local PA and postdoc from my lab after they ignored my orders, and then they teamed up against me and told me a foreign cannot fire Malaysian people and I'm the one who needs to leave...long story. So I called and messaged the careless boss to get involved in this matter because it's not about science anymore, it's about race. But she ignored my calls and messages as usual. I threatened to resign if she keeps ignoring me. and in my final message i did. well you know, I really needed an excuse. After few hours she messaged and apologized for their behavior and asked me to go on Monday, but I'm not going. .....and after 6 months of hell, i'm finally in peace.
well I guess it would have been stupid to stay there..
You are getting that assistent professorship job?
Yeah I'm going for that, although the salary is low. I got another call as well, and I was supposed to be there 2 weeks ago for interview but I haven't even called them anymore. Two other places haven't responded yet.
I actually don't care about any job now, all I want is to be with my wife in all stages of her pregnancy.

Just a curious question as I'm not really familiar with research environments in that part of Asia. How is the landscape of biomedical/biological/medical research like in Malaysia? How about government funding? And most importantly how well do they pay a post-doc researcher in Malaysia?
they have a lot of funding. I mean the ministry supports them well with big grants. you don't normally see them complain about lack of funding. but postdoc salary is low, because almost half of your salary would go for rental if you want to live in KL. you can only survive if your spouse works as well.
This sounds serious. You should consider legal action.
