Clash of the Science Titans - (Jul/13/2013 )
I never get over how hard it is for me to explain to my partner what it is that I do as a microbiologist. It always ends in a nasty argument where he leaves me feeling like I know absolutely nothing about what I'm doing and even worse I feel like he's right. He's a geologist and often explains his work to me in a clearer way it seems than I could possibly explain what I'm doing. But maybe that's because what I'm doing is not simple to explain in two sentences (something he's often asked me to do). And in trying to simplify my explanation we get side tracked in the definitions and by the end of the discussion I've totally lost sight of what I set out to explain in the first place. It makes me wonder if we're ever going to jive career wise and if that difference in careers will drive us apart in the future. It sucks a lot coming home after a long day of work, feeling tired and then having him bust out the science questions . . . sometimes I wish he was just normal. Just needed to vent.

And what is it that you do?
and it'd be interesting to know how he could explain his job in two sentences? Don't stress yourself out too much over this....
It's "I culture and analyse (perhaps harvest) micro-organisms" versus "I dig out fossil micro-organisms and their remains"...not much difference

I was thinking along the lines of "I go. I dig et voilà!!!"
