any journal recommendation? - (Dec/19/2012 )

Hi all.

I am looking for a journal
- with an ISI impact factor of around 2.0 - 2.5
- with low or no publication fee (my advisor is not willing to sponsor any amount greater than USD 200)
- in the area of medical science/cancer genetics/cancer molecular biology/colorectal cancer or other related areas

Any recommendation?

I had a great experience publishing in F1000Research. They start charging in 2013, so if you can get it submitted in the next day or 2, this might be a good free option for you:

It seems they give a DOI to all papers, but that they only index approved papers. They explain some of this more clearly in their blog "Discussions": http://f1000research.com/2012/07/16/citations-and-indexing-a-novel-approach/

They just started publishing in 2012, so no impact factor yet. As it is a new journal with 100% acceptance rate, initial impact factors will likely be low. They are not yet indexed in pubmed, but are likely trying to make this happen. Other indexing (e.g. google scholar) includes F1000Research.

What I particularly liked about publishing a paper with the was that F1000 faculty members, real leaders in my field, are listed as the reviewers for my paper. Had I published this paper in a random low impact journal, these people probably would not have even read my paper. In addition the editorial staff was excellent and easy to contact.

eLife is currently free to publish in: http://elife.elifesc...nces.org/

This new open access journal has a lot of high level support, and an interesting review process where the authors discuss their reviews together and come to a consensus review.
