Cooking experience in your PhD - (Jan/12/2010 )

I would like to ask people here to share their cooking experience during their PhD.
Mine was horrible but its very much improve now. I am out of my hom end never have an experince of cooking before my PhD. It was very terrible for me to do cooking as I donot know too much about it. So I started to do experiment with me cooking and ask people to teach me their cooking style as well. Now I can make a variety of things. From Asian to western food. My boss says you can open a resturant and it will be very profitable bussiness in europe. This X-mas I make lot of cake and it was wonderful. Now I would like to learn how to cook shrimps or sushi :o.
regards

hi samita,
nabi-san is the expert in japanese food in the forum, there is (or was) a whole thread with pictures of his food, really delicious.
a restaurant can be profitable depending on many things, but yes, it can be. cooking is similar to a phd, follow a lot of recipes, however, you don't need a phd to cook.
good luck with the sushi. shrimp tastes really good with asparagus. keep up the good vibes.

oh yes....we had some nice food discussions in here :) and the most delicous pictures were from nabi!

Nevertheless cooking is a great thing, but even better if you can enjoy the food together with some friends! My favourite food is mediterranean (italian, french or spanish).......but I donot really know the asian cuisine. Probably we can revive the "cooking" group :P

Before PhD it was quite okay, as I had time and some fun to try out recipes. But during and after PhD I had and have no time for good cooking and also realised that kitchen work, i.e. the cooking, is very similar to lab work....therefore I gave up :)

besides in the kitchen you usually find out quickly when something went wrong....in the lab it can cost you some weeks :) :P
