What is YFG and why is it called Your Favourite Gene?

" Your Favourite Gene"?

I thought it was "yellow fluorescent protein", just like GFP.

Usually when you see YFG it is in the context of a class. This is just a way for professors to say "any gene you want to use" they use "your favorite gene" or YFG because the actual function of the gene is not important to the question they are asking.

My favourite gene (MFG) is "Noggin" because it made me laugh in lectures (funny name)

often the term GOI (=gene of interest) is used synonymously....
