Removal of RNAse from pipette tips??? - (May/17/2005 )
Hi there,
Is there any quick and easy way to remove RNAse from pippete tips? I know autoclaving doesn't remove RNAse and cost of filter tips are too expensive.... so is there an answer to this problem or is the purchase of filter tips the only answer!!!
How about the RNaseZap spray from Ambion. I use it frequently.
Edit: I realize that Wookie is talking about tips not the tip of the pipets, in that case, spray is not a choice.
You could try DEPC treating during the autoclaving , this usually does the trick with the water that I use.

you can also purchase tips that are pyrogen, DNase and RNase free from such companies such as axygen.

Yes, you could purchase the DNase & RNase free tips but, anyhow, you should really try to work with filter tips. It makes the difference.
Hi,
can anyone tell me how long should I leave the RNaseZap spray on my pipets? Thanks

dip in the depcwater .and autoclave
Hi,

Hi Ribosoul, I am sorry that's a misunderstanding. I thought the original poster meant the tip (end) of the pipets. But for tips, RNase spray is not practical. We just buy prepacked RNase free tips from vendors.
Thanks for all the info. What about eppi's (reaction tubes)? Would a good method of ensuring that RNAse is removed from them be by spraying them with RNAseZAP followed by rinsing with sterile DEPC treated water and then autoclaving them?
