endosomes - Endosomes acidification (May/11/2005 )
hi
Just want to know that ,"Endosomes" are components of cells,or they are the part of the cell membrane formed during endocytosis? How do they get acidified inside the cells?

hi
when endocytosis occurs, part of cell membrane form an invagination (coatomers or clathrin dependent mechanism) that finally close itself and forms a vesicle. This vesice is called early endosome. Then, this vesicle acidifies itself (i believe it's by fusion with lysosome) and is a functionnaly "late" endosome.

Hi,
Acidification is also from h+ pumps in the endosome membrane
