A standard purification will produce double stranded DNA. The detergent is for breaking down cell membranes and denaturing proteins, the salt and EtOH/IOH is to help precipitate the DNA out of solution.

DNA doesn't really like to be single stranded, so it will re-nature fairly easily.

hi, i am comparing 3 different dna extraction methods, 2 basic methods and 1 more scientific/complex one. i need to know if these methods would produce single or double stranded dna. if it is only single stranded- what breaks it up... the detergent? each method uses a form of detergent, salt and alcohol.
