question on LPS preparation - (Apr/19/2005 )

Dear all:

I'm setting an experiment up to test LPS' effects on cell culture.
Since I'll need to prepare sterile LPS solution from powder, I'm wondering if LPS can get through syringe filter (either 0.22 or 0.45 um one) fine without being retained on the filter membrane? Many thanks.

neither 0.22µm or 0.45µm should pose a problem. there could be some adherence of LPS to your filter though, so you should check the LPS content of you final solution (e.g. by Limulus Assay).
