questions about mycoplasms - (Mar/24/2005 )

Hi,

Does somebody knows if mycoplasms are killed by penn/strep in primary human cells culture? Also, I want to know what is the best way to see if I got mycoplasms into my culture?

Thanks a lot

héhé... mycoplasma aren't killed by peni strepto... that's such a shame. But first you have to diagnose if your cultures are contaminated. A pcr run will do the job. (just pick 100µL of supernatant of a culture dish/plate/well and aboil it 5', then PCR.
If you get contaminations, some companies sell mycoplasmas killing facilities, and your hoods are contaminated too... sad.gif
But honneslty, if your cultures are contaminated, i would throw them away and start with fresh ones.
