The difference between SssI methylase and HpaII methylase - (Mar/21/2005 )

what are the differences between these two?

Hi Samantha,

both enzymes are able to methylate DNA. However, SssI methylase is able to mimic DNMT activity in that it will methylate all CpG dinucleotides it comes across. HpaII however, can only methylate CCGG sequences so you are limited with HpaII to the recognition sequence.

hope this helps
