Lyophilized or Silica gel dried tissue protocols - DNA protocols (Jul/13/2002 )

I am looking for good protocols to extract DNA from lyophilized or silica gel dried plant tissue.  I will be doing AFLPs on these samples for a mapping project and so the quality needs to be good.  Any suggestions?

There is a paper that just came out in the latest issue of BioTechniques (vol 31(1) pgs 132-140) that used dried plant tissue in real-time PCR.  They used Puregene for this.
