electroporation question - (Nov/08/2004 )

My lab is considering employing Travis Glenn's protocols for microsatellite isolations. One step requires electroporation in the transformation of E coli. A couple of questions:

1) what electroporation apparatus is available to a budget-conscious lab?

2) are there alternatives to this step in the protocol?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Why, sure. CaCl2-heat shock transformation should work, too. And it costs next to nothing. I only browsed over the protocols but it didn't occur to me that they were too large to get them without electroporation.
