could it be contamination? - (Dec/16/2008 )
Hi, I have found this morning some black spheres in my cell culture (It was not there yesterday). They are big, around three times a cell size. When I have trypsinized my cells the stayed attached to the plate surface and If I scratched it with the pipet they were hard.
If someone knows what it is... thanks
theres a very simple test if you think you have a contaminant but are not sure what it is.
throw the flask in the bin - if it stays there then - yes - your cells are contaminated
(if it crawls back out - new field of research)

I totally agree with Dominic.
My personal rule of thumb is anything but cells in my dish or flask is a contaminant.
But, if it does manage to crawl back out again, run away!!
Hi
From this, the most probable thing coming out is only the fungal contamination. Are you using some antibiotic-antimycotic solutions in your culture medium? if not then check for that.

wait at least a couple of days just to be sure that your cells STAY alone in the dish....
in the meantime check your media for contamination
