THP-1 cells and 2-mercaptoethanol - (Dec/16/2008 )
Hello!
I read that 2-mercaptoethanol should be added to the medium to culture THP-1 cells. However, I will study the NF-kB binding activity and I read in some article that 2-ME should be eliminated before the experience because it is a reducing agent so it can cause some interference. The authors of the article refer that they eliminated 2-ME 72 hours before starting the experience. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to eliminate 2-ME in a more simple way?

One more thing, the use of 2-ME is refered by ATCC but the company to which I'm going to buy the cells (HPA) does not recomend the use of this suplemment. So I don't know if I should add it to the media or not. Does anyone know what's its function? And what about sodium pyruvate?
