storage of purified proteins? - (Dec/10/2008 )

how would you store purified proteins temporarily? i'll be sending it off to get custom antibodies made to it within a couple of weeks.

this very much depends on the protein and whether you need it to be in its native state.

some proteins will freeze safely, some won't.

you can lyophilize most proteins but some will denature.

you can refrigerate (4C) pretty much all proteins for short periods (at least a couple of days).

for some purposes you can denature the protein with sds and it will keep.

as i said, it depends on the protein. some are more stable than others.

you can test store aliquots of your protein under various conditions.

the best thing to do would be to send it off as soon as possible after preparing it.
