Ways to stop the cell at G1 phase? - (Dec/04/2008 )

Hi.

I am new to cell biology.

I just come across some experiments that need to stop the cells (Hela cells) at G1 phase. Actually what are the ways to achieve this?

hi cityugrad i think if you remove the serum from your media the cells will stop in G1 phase

Serum starvation is the most common way to do this, however you will get a small population of cells that will stop in other parts of the cell cycle. There are a few specific cell cycle inhibitors about that can do this. Sigma has a cell cycle regulators page that will supply you with the info you need.
