Fluorescent urine! - Do you have it? (Nov/27/2008 )
It may seem rather awkward, but this idea came from some forums, where somebody was asking about the fluorescence of tonic water under UV light and what causes it (quinine). Later they wanted to explain the principles of fluorescence itself and someone came with a question if your urine would "glow" after you drink tonic.
I become scientificaly interested in the whole area, and started some research. First I bought a bottle of tonic and experimentaly proved, that it indeed glows. Later I learned, that human urine can glow under UV for many reasons as the amount of different fluorescent stuff we consume every day is quite high (some medication for example), doesn't need to be quinine. So I tested.. my own urine.
And it was glowing! Not that much as tonic, but still. I took (a very bad) photo by a cell phone, here it is.
From the right: 100% tonic, urine, destilled water as a negative control
What about you, does your urine glow under UV too?
I know this from fluorescence angiography (and I guess other investigations with such a dye), the dye is injected, dyes the veins (in this case retina) for the analysis and photo and afterwards you excrete the dye, green-yellow almost iridescent urine...looks really awkward even in visible light...

from personal experience, dr H? You shld post the photo

I don't have this pronounced spirit of research on human biology like Trof. And I'm lucky that the flush was invented.

Oh please.... no more exchange of images

good to see some things never change

Hmm...hey Dom, you can't post in here unless you've done Trof's experiment or at least, if you've got something fluorescent to show us (and I don't mean your cultured immunocytochem'd cells)
