Microbiology - identify the mucoid and non mucoid strains (Nov/05/2008 )

Dear friends,

I am asked by a reviewer to differentiate some clinical isolates of pseudomonas into mucoid producers and non producers. On searching the internet, I could not find a protocol or kit by which I can do that

I want to ask all the people whether they could suggest me some protocol or some kit which I can buy and use it

I know it is old-fashioned, but use a microscope .

You can then easily differenciate the ones producing mucus and the ones that dont!

colonies of mucoid Pseudomonas (like clinical isolates from CF patients) look quite different from colonies produced by non-mucoid strains...
