gene variants - on same or different chromosomes (Oct/21/2008 )

Hi,

Is is possible to have different variants of a gene located on different chromosomes?

Hi, it is possible and even necessary, since you can inherite mutant nonfunctional variant of the gene from one parent and health from other parent. Tis is the reason why sexual reproduction was so succesful through the evolution. Recombination during gamets diferentiation can remove mutant variant of the gene and offspring will survive and reproduce.
