Post-doc in Canada - (Oct/21/2008 )
Hello All,
I have about year to defend my PhD thesis. I plan to do my post-doc in Canada. (I am not keen on going to the US and its my second option, next to Canada) I am not aware of many universities/institutes in Canada. I am curious to know if there is any listing anywhere of all major research universities or institutes in (English speaking) Canada. Or if there is any academic job site..
Thank you very much.

You can try the top to bottom approach first- the AUCC (Association Of Universities and Colleges of Canada ) shld have a complete listing and then you can do a more thorough scouting....

Why are you so surprised?
The reason for choosing Canada (Pls. correct if I have any misunderstandings)
1. Funding scenario in the US doesn't look good and I am getting the news over and over that it will take at least 2-3 years before it improves.
2. Again, I have heard that Canada still has ok funding scene.
3. Standard of living is better than the US. (Currently I am living in one of the best European Countries and in one of the best institutes.) Don't go on my screen name here..

4. I am keen on research and at the same time, I want to live life. I have heard that many (not all) post-docs in the US universities are running rate-race with not so much time to live life..
At the moment, I am just checking out places and not very certain that I will go Canada way but I will certainly prefer with what I know today. Thanks for your suggestion.

You're welcome. Wiki has a better list with links..so you can check THIS out. You can also surf the CIHR website..it would have a lot of info which you might find helpful.
And why am I surprised, you asked? We can perhaps ask all the Canadians working or doing postdocs in the US right now.
