complete cell lysis - I want to know what to use to completely lyse/destroy the cells (Oct/19/2008 )

I am a chemist and I am currently doing some cell work and need some help. I have a colon cancer cell line that have been fixed What I What I want to do is now use a reagent to completely lyse the cells. I don't care to retain any protein structure, I just want to completely solublize the cell membrane and release the contents of the cell. I was thinking about using an ionic cell lysis reagent, but I'm not sure. Any ideas or suggestion will be greatly appreciated

The cells were fixed by what - ethanol, formaldehyde, FFPE? What's your downstream application -DNA, RNA, proteins, lipids?
