Media Expiry - (Oct/12/2008 )
I am using DMEM that works well for many cells. We had some bottles left from the stock that are not opened and are stored at 4 degC. The expiration date showed that they are expired last year. There is no glutamine and sodium pyruvate in it and I add it prior to cell culture alongwith FBS and antibiotics. However, the medium do contain phenol red.
Is there any thing else in the medium that could be toxic to cells ? Are these media can still be used for some more months?

I'm not an expert and this situation never happened with me, but i can advicee you that many nutrients can reduce as well. The lifetime of many nutrients in the medium specially vitamins and minerals can reduce, and your cells coiuld not grow well. Are you using this medium in your cells??? pH changed??
If these bottles were stored at 4ºC, pH have not changed, i think you can use them. As i told you i'm not an expert, let's see other users have to tell us!

The pH has not changed and I tried them on my cells and they are growing fine. Only in some cases, the growth was slow. Only lately, the issue of expiration came up and I wanted to know the opinion of others

well i think there's no problem to use this medium.... if pH has no changed and the cells are growing fine, you can use them. but next time keep the expiration date under control to avoid problems.
