Master by coursework and Master by research - Which one is better? (Oct/05/2008 )
Hi,
As what I know from my friends, Master by research always cannot finish in 2 years time. Master by coursework can be finished on time. Any opinions between this two?

In my opinion, it depends on what you want to do after the masters.
If you think you want to do research, but aren't quite sure, a masters (with research) is a good way to get a feel of doing a PhD. Great way to get exposure to the technical side of designing and implementing experiments.
But if you want a masters for something else (perhaps for better job opportunities), than skipping the labwork isn't a lots.

I think people put more value on Master by research than Master by coursework in biological/medical research.

Ya..I have the same point of view...I am currently doing Master in Medical science by research. But I'm having problems in the technical part and the experimental procedures. I'm almost one year already doing my Master, but still not getting anything, feel so frustrated and still keep on try an error on the experiments. Everytime goes to the lab but don't know what to do, how to do.....I really don't know how am I going to finish my Master. My supervisors just ask me keep trying, they don't know about the hands on technical part, I have to work it out myself, feel so hard and helpless....

If you got any technical problems, you can post them in this forum.

Welcome to the labwork

It gets better after awhile. You are learning even while you don't realize it.
Consult your problems in here and with colleagues. Anyway you can do Masters on negative or half-negative results. Mine finally worked two months before I had to write the thesis
