xylene exposure? - immunohistochemistry methodolgoy query? (Oct/02/2008 )
I am just about to embark on some immunohistochemistry and have been shown the technique. All the staining racks with their plastic covers ie. xylene, ethoanol, water etc are permanently in the fumehood where we work but for the last slide step my colleagues have the sash of the fumehood quite high and lean over to manipulate/paint the slide. The rack covers are on all of the solutions but I just wanted to know whether there still be be any possibility of vapour exposure? Does leaning your head slightly into the hood pose a big danger?
may be but very little with the fan running
Why did he stick his head inside the hood??

something to do with nail polish i think...
you only need to put your hands inside the hood to add the nail polish on the slides.
may be he likes the smell of chemical (nail polish)
one does not have to go into the hood to add nail polish.
Nail polish does smell nice. Don't get addicted !!!

Hi scolix,
Do you likes the smell of the nail polish? Are you addicted to it?
