Confuse~~ideas needed - (Sep/29/2008 )
hi all, i am M. Phil student currently working in plant extracts as potential antioxidant n antimicrobial in food preservations. my work will at least covered compounds identification, medium modelling and food modelling system. to convert to phd, i need another research proposal which cover a wider scope of research interest.
my supervisor suggest me to do on post-processing/ treatment and effect on the bio-activity of the compounds. Another choice is animal toxicity assays~~actually, i am more interest to shift the whole thing into molecular/cellular based. i need more ideas/advise from all the expert here that what else i can do/choose? as i really not interest in post-processing effect~~
I think you can do some molecular biology work even you keep the direction of either post-processing/treatment or animal toxicity. I have a friend, who did a lot of work in protein profiling with 2D gel, and microarray to identify genes in E.coli O157 regulated by food-derived quorum sensing inhibitors.
It depends on your background of training. If you are strong in either chemistry or biology and you have the support of your mentor, medicinal chemistry and pharmacology is a good direction to go after.
I am thinking that too~~~ but how important/critical for natural food preservatives to be studied in quorum sensing part? I am not knowledgeble enough, so i cant convince myself on that... OMG~~i am going crazy~~
I am stronger in chemistry n biology but weak in physics~~ but honestly, based on the field of study, my mentor not really support me to do medicinal chemistry...personally i do thinking of doing antimicrobial mechanism~~ but seems i not supported~~
