Cell culture supernatant - Is it just the media from cultured cells? (Sep/28/2008 )

Hi Everyone,

I'm interested in looking at a chemokine ligand and monitoring any changes in the level of secretion by my cells in response to inhibitors. I've been looking around, and a sandwich ELISA seems like my best option. To do this, I was planning on growing up my cells, treating them, collecting the media that they were growing in and measuring the amount of CCL in the media. Is this the way this assay is normally performed? And is the media know as the "cell culture supernatant"?
